A형->O형 혈액형 바꾸는 기술 등장"만능수혈시대"열릴까  

캐나다 브리티시컬럼비아대의 스티븐 위더스 교수 연구진은 최근 A형에서 O형으로 혈액을 바꾸는 기술을 개발했다. 연구진은 지난 10일 국제학술지 '네이처 미생물학'에서 "가장 흔한 A형 혈액의 항원 단백질을 장내 세균으로 없애 모든 사람에게 수혈 가능한 O형 혈액 형태로 바꾸는 데 성공했다"고 밝혔다
O형의 적혈구는 원래 항원을 가지지 않기 때문에 어느 혈액형에도 수혈이 가능하다
이에 따라 A형에서 O형으로 혈액이 바뀌면 모든 사람에게 수혈 가능한 혈액이 거의 두 배로 늘어나 수혈이 필요할 이들에게 큰 도움이 될 전망이다
